In Digital Photography, I learned many different skills that helped to improve my photos. In the beginning, I knew some information such as rule of thirds and the basic functions of the camera. However, by taking Digital Photography I learned a lot more about the composition of a photo like using lines, color, and depth of field to make pictures better. I also learned about shutter and aperture and how they work together to create a photo. Some of the hardest challenges I faced where getting the right lighting, avoiding motion blur, and setting pictures up so they look nice. The challenges helped me to learn more about photography. Below are some of the worst photos I have ever taken for the class and some of the best photos I have ever taken. You can see that I have improved significantly. Photoshop was the best skill I learned in the class. I had some previous experience from Graphics class, but I didn't know how to use a lot of the photo editing tools. In Digital Photography, I learned how to add shadows, touch up photos, create a panoramic, and other various skills. It was really fun to do the assignments because they allowed me to be creative while learning a lot about the photoshop program. Some of the challenges I faced were adding stuff to one layer when I should have been on the background, properly using the selection tool, and adding a natural looking shadow into photo. Below are some examples of the cool photoshop skills I learned in class.

For this photo assignment, I chose food. I wanted a creative assignment that didn't require me to go anywhere. I took pictures of various candy and citrus fruits I had in my house and tried to create interesting images. What I learned
I learned that it is very hard to properly light food photos. I looked up photos to get ideas and they looked very easy and well lit. However, when I started to take my photos I found that my house natural lighting was not good enough. In addition, it was raining outside so I couldn't use the natural sunlight to help light my photos. I had to find ways to create the photos in low light. Also, I found it difficult to actually come up with ideas that didn't involve me actually making food. For this assignments, I had to take photos and use photo merge in photoshop to create a panoramic. What I Learned
I learned how to make a pano from individual photos. I never knew you could take individual photos and make a pano. I always thought you had to use the pano function on the camera. It is a really neat trick to create panos if you don't have the pano function on a camera. I also learned how to use a tripod. Its useful piece of information. For this photo assignment, I chose shadows. I took photos of objects and shined a light on the to create cool shapes from the image. For example, for my best photo, I used cards to create this diamond/triangular shaped shadows. I wanted to create cool pattern shadows but i couldn't find any materials to do it in my house. Below, are my top six photos What I learned
This assignment, it was more difficult for me to come up with creative ideas to create shadows. I wanted to use objects to create cool shadows like using items to create a shadow that would spell out a word, but I found it too difficult. It was also hard to get the right lighting to create the shadows. Overall, it was still a fun assignment to do. For this assignment, I had to take a picture of some part of my school and use photoshop to make it look interesting. I had to make the school area recognizable but interesting. I had to add a shadow in the photo as well to try out different photoshop tools. I decided to make it into a high school musical photo by putting high school musical characters in the photos. Below are my original photo and my edited photo. What I learned
While doing this assignment, I learned how to make a shadow using rotation and desaturation. I also learned how to cut and copy photos into another photo. I also learned how to adjust the lighting on my individual photos to blend in more with the background. These are all useful skills to improve the quality and to increase the creativity of the photo. For this assignment, I did still life. Originally, I was going to do shoes but it turned out to difficult so I chose lipstick. It was fun to be creative. I put my lipstick on a white bookshelf that was against a whitewall and shined a light on the to create a cool shadow effect and to light the product I was taking photos of. Top Photo ISO: 124 Aperture: f4.0 Shutter: 1/60 I changed background to black and white and cropped the photo What I learned
During this assignment, I learned that it is hard to properly light an area. I had to find multiple different light to make the lighting right. The first light I used gave an orange hue to all my photos and did not look good. I even attempted using my phone flashlight. Most of the photos I took would have to be adjusted in photoshop. It was also hard yo get the shadows in a cool looking position, but I did get some good shots of the shadows. For this assignment, we took an image of a car a fellow student took and photoshop it to match the photoshopped, demo photo. We used tools like quick selection, stamp tool, and cropping to get our photo as close as we could to the demo. Below are the original and my edited version of the car. What I learned
I learned a lot of new skills in this assignment. I have never used the clone stamp before and it is very useful to fix impurities or touch up details in a photo. The selection tool was also very useful to avoid getting the black color all over the photo. However, it was difficult to get the quick selection to line up properly with the body of the car so it took me multiple times to get it and I had to use the brush tool to touch up some of my edges. Overall, I learned a lot form this assignment. For my second photo assignment, I choose nature. It is spring time and all the flowers and trees are blooming. I wanted to capture the pretty colors. I really enjoyed taking pictures of the nature because it gave me chance to be more creative with my photos. Below are my top six photos from the assignment. What I Learned
I learned that it can be difficult to get lighting right for taking photos of nature. The day I took pictures happened to be a windy and cloudy day. I had to learn how to adjust to my situation by fixing shutter and aperture settings to fit with my setting. I tried to mostly use an auto setting but sometimes the photos would still turn out to dark or blurry. I did the best for the situation I was in. For this assignment, we used photoshop. We had to crop, resize, and colorize (hue and saturation and lightness) a photo of ourself and create a pop art look to it. We took a picture of ourself. Then we put it in photoshop and changed the mask and the threshold. Then we took four copies of the edited photo and colorized them and put them together to create the pop art like creation. What I Learned
I learned how to color a photo and change the threshold on a photo. I have had experience with photoshop before, but I have never learned how to colorize or adjust the threshold. It was also a good way to brush up on some of the skills I forgot like cropping or change the hue of an image. The assignment was a fun way to learn some of the basic functions of photoshop. It definitely helped me learn skills to help improve my photos. for my next photo assignment, I want to do nature. It's spring time and lots of flowers and trees are blooming. I would like to capture the pretty colors that are arriving. There are many unique plants and that I think I can take good pictures of. Above are some really interesting photos of flowers. They capture the color very well and the detail. This is something I would like to do when I am taking my flower/plant photos.
